In 2022, Mary van Coller completed a six-year labour of love tracing the streams, rivers and stories of Dorset.

Driven by a deep affection for the county, alongside a longstanding interest in history and a passion for community, Downstream Dorset brings to life the historic villages, landscapes, and local stories connected by Dorset’s waterways thus capturing what makes the county such a special place to so many.

Since its release, Downstream Dorset has attracted a wide and enthusiastic following among Dorset residents and admirers alike. The book’s unique blend of geography, history, and human connection has resonated strongly, leading to a growing demand for Mary to appear as a public speaker.

Mary is now a sought-after presenter, sharing the story of her Downstream Dorset journey with historical associations, community groups, and clubs across the region. Her talks are engaging, richly informed, and grounded in first-hand research, offering audiences both insight and inspiration throughout Dorset..

Just a note to thank you so much for your interesting and illuminating talk yesterday evening.

It was refreshing to listen to your anecdotes and you have a charming and funny way of keeping your audience involved.  You have clearly done masses of research and that is to be praised too.

I know we are only a small group but your talk was hugely appreciated.  Thank you.

I came home, poured a glass of wine and was still reading and enjoying the book two hours later!  I know my sister will love it too.

Many thanks again and for your support to the air ambulance too.

Best regards,  Jayne
